11 years - Ankleversary!

Sunday - Sep 24, 2023

11 years!

Another year goes by so quickly!

My go to workout is Turbo Kick, online courses. Safe, no contact, no jumping and weights for my arms and legs.

Picked up kayaking, light hikes, and after work walks.

Another thing I like doing is getting massages and the only thing I am afraid of is when the masseuse forgets that I told them where my ankle surgery scar is to avoid massaging the area because I still have my rod and 9 nails in it.

With hikes and walks, my limit is about 21,000 steps before I start to feel tired and achy and will need to take a break.

I'm still a weather detector, the arthritis hits when cold and rain comes.

The painful accidental ankle bumping into things feels just like hitting the elbow. Painful tingle.

Scar looks the same, more easy on the ankle workouts continued.

Doing great!

Hoping for fast recoveries for you all, you'll get there! Keep at the physical therapy and exercises!

10 years 5 months - I feel the cold and rain!

Friday - February 24, 2023

Happy New Year! 5 months late haha!

We're living through crazy weathers with rain, thunder, lightening, earthquakes, and now snow in the city! We're seeing historic snow fall this winter storm with snow capped mountains!

I can feel it in my ankle, the cold and when it rains. Just that quick sharp achy pain. But manageable. How fun to have hardware in my ankle.

Many friends and family have been sending their amazing photos while driving through the freeways close to places where there's snow! Within an hour drive of where I live there is snow!

I last bought myself some snowboots for my New Years week trip in Reno to play in snow!

No crazy issues with my ankle. Still doing well and dealing with the random arthritis in this cold. I continue to shop for comfortable shoes, working out, still no running. I'm doing great!

Stay warm all! Hoping for your fast recovery!

10 years - Ankleversary!

Saturday - September 24, 2022

10 years!

I've continued my weekly Turbo Kick courses and weights for my arms.

Other things I've enjoyed are weekend hikes/walks by the beach. My max steps per day are still around 13k steps. Gaining weight of course is no good, more weight stresses my ankle.

It still gets achy when the weather changes, especially for cold and rain. At most, I use a Salonpa patch or icy hot roller around the ankle for when I sleep.

Once in a while, I get a weird pinch pain if I lean my ankle the wrong way, mostly only to the right a bit too much.

No limping, no horrible pain. The metal I don't feel anymore because I'm so used to it. I still also sometimes still have the random keloid itch on the scar.

Shoe shopping has changed for me. I’m about quality over cheap shoes now. Even with rain shoes, snow, flats, and comfort! It has to be comfortable, cushioned, and long lasting. I’ve bought about 15 pairs of shoes in the last 2 years, I’ve got shopping problems 😅

Moving forward!

Gluck to you all!

9 years 10 months - Started playing Tennis

Monday - July 4, 2022

Happy July 4! I finally have time to write an update post!

I bought a tennis racket and recently started to play tennis for the first time since I broke my ankle!

The first time I played I wore the wrong shoes, running shoes were too soft to grip the floor when playing. It almost felt like I was running around in socks and got really tired. No pain, no soreness. My ankle held up!

The next time I played, I wore the right workout shoes that were more stiff and sturdy to support the entire foot for when I sidestep. This time, with stiffer shoes, I did notice my side stepping while playing, I feel a stiffness in my ankle where the metal is on my outer right ankle. I did notice leaning over to the right, it feels as if I can't bend my ankle/body to the right as I use to. It was a bit uncomfortable but not painful in the ankle. Felt like the rod was in the way but it was just against my bone and I can feel the pressure. But it's not bothersome to the point I need to stop playing. More tennis to come! So much fun and I'm so happy I can play!

I continue cycling at home virtually for workouts.

I've also started cycling outdoors around the city!

I am buying shoes with thicker heels! Also needs to be comfortable and avoid all hard ankle coverings against my ankle with the metal. So this is all fabric, sock-like material.

Even sandals I buy all now have ta o have cushion! And platform for extra security and support! My style for shoes has definitely changed over time, I've retired from stilettos and any heels past 2 inches high. What shoe will I buy next? Updates to come.
