4 years 4 months - Took my first Full Body Barry's Bootcamp that involved running on a treadmill!

Saturday - January 21, 2017

Happy New Year!

It's the new year and you know how it goes, working out to get rid of the holiday pounds for the new year resolution. Way to start off this new year!

I took my first Full Body Barry's Bootcamp that involved running on a treadmill! 2 sets of treadmill workout that equals to about 25-30 minutes of running. Here's the full information:

25-30 minutes of cardiovascular treadmill intervals and 25-30 minutes of strength training utilizing weights, resistance bands, medicine balls and other equipment to target a variety of different muscle groups followed by a short stretch and cool down.

I got there nervous. I wasn't sure if I was able to make the entire run. I haven't ran in months! When it came to the treadmill session, the first session started at a Level 4 Speed and some incline to a Level 3 to begin. I was able to do the minimum and went up to the most at Level 5.5 Speed and at max incline at Level 4. I stuck with it and was able to run without issues! After the second session, I was getting tired. I didn't push myself too hard just in case of reinjuring and worried about the pressure I was putting on it. I loved the treadmill though, it was so bouncy and supportive, not like the other gyms I've been to.

Here's what it looked like inside. I loved their treadmill! The tread was made of actual tire like treads. I felt comfortable and not in pain at all when running! However, my ankle did feel tired. Great start to this new year!

2 years 11 months - Took a Yoga class and ran for a few minutes on a treadmill!

Tuesday August 11, 2015

I went to 24 Hr Fitness and took a 1 hour Yoga class and ran a few minutes on the treadmill! No ankle brace! My ankle held up! I only ran for a few minutes and walked the rest on the treadmill. I did feel a little tingle up my leg to butt. Then went to the Sauna to relax after. I'll find out tomorrow if my ankle is sore. Feeling great!

Day 177 - Was able to run for a total of 20 minutes!

Thursday, May 17, 2013 - Week 33

I woke up today feeling really strong and comfortable in the ankle. I can say I felt about 95% today! I was surprised and happy to notice that I now almost cannot feel the metal in my ankle as if I never got the surgery! I never thought I'd actually feel my ankle again. I still don't have 100% of side to side range of motion. Always a bit stiffness once I wake up in the morning but with a little stretch and warming up to taking my first few steps and I'm good to go. No complaints, I'll take it because I'm not in pain!

This is my 4th running progression homework. It's been about 2 weeks since my last run on the treadmill. I've got a lot of time between busy doing my other ankle exercises. I was able to run for a total of 20 minutes today! [4] 2 minutes, and [4] 3 minutes of running with a minute in between each run at 4.3 speed (.1 increase)! I didn't want to push myself but it felt like I could have ran more then just 3 minute increments. I felt more balanced and definitely stronger this time around. I was less wobbly and eventually felt tired by about 18 minutes. Most importantly, no pain at all!

I continued speed walking at 3.0 speed for another 20 minutes and was sweating waterfalls again. It was a good day for me. I'm so happy!

Day 163 - Was able to run for a total of 16 minutes!

Thursday, May 2, 2013 - Week 31

I woke up really tired today. Since I got back from Vegas this past weekend, I've only had about 6 hours of sleep every night since. My ankle felt a bit sore from the ankle socks today. I still have this tiny bit limp whenever I am tired or sore from working out the night before. Thursday is my usual gym day with my friend. I am now on my third running progression homework on the treadmill with the same alternating 1 minute of walking/1 minute of running. Once I feel tired, I increase to alternating 2 minutes of walking/1 minute of running. I am still walking at 3.0 speed and running at 4.2 speed. Even though I'm tired, I felt a bit stronger in the ankle for running today. I was able to run a total of 10 minutes every other minute alternations, then 6 more runs after every 2 minutes of walking. A total of 16 minutes of running! I felt like that was enough and didn't want to strain myself. I worked up a sweat! I am also able to walk longer distances, for a longer period of time, and at a faster pace as well! I'm happy I can feel myself getting stronger too.

I've also noticed, being in a cast took a lot of my mental energy to stay positive. I now am more outspoken and don't take any type of negativity. It basically drains me whenever there is drama around. I definitely went home with a limp tonight. Took a hot shower and put on some chinese medicine to get rid of any aching I may have from running. I am now excited to get back to running on the road some day! I do miss running by the beach or any type of body of water. Soon enough!

Day 161 - Was able to run for a total of 13 minutes!

Tuesday, April 30, 2013 - Week 31

My ankle feels great a day after coming home from Vegas. I expected my ankle to be sore from all the walking around I did but I feel stronger and completely fine! No aches, always the same waking morning stiffness. But a bit of stretching will warm me up and I'm good to go. My balance is getting better by the day too. Today is my second Running Progression Exercise Homework. I met up my friend at her gym to get some running in. I started off with walking for 4 minutes and did the usual alternate walking/running every minute. At that point, I felt a tiny knuckle crack type crunching pop on the top and inside of my ankle. My ankle was also to feel hot and tired. I started to feel heavier too.

I lasted 10 minutes of running then increased it to 2 minutes of walking and 1 minute of running. I lasted about 3 more minutes of running from this alternation and that gave me a total of 13 minutes of running! It's 3 minutes more then the last time. The rest of my workout was continued walking at a 3.0 speed level. While my running is still at 4.2 speed level. By the end of that last run, I felt tired and that quick crunch again above and inside of my foot. A bit of pressure on the bottom outside ankle. No PAIN though! I just felt tired. Possibly also because I am still dehydrated from just getting back from Vegas this past weekend. Other then that, my ankle feels stronger, and it's progressing. I also felt that I was a bit more balanced and less duck waddle running like the very first time. I hope to keep increasing my minutes in running!

Day 156 - First Running Progression Exercise Homework

Thursday, April 25, 2013 - Week 30

Every thursday is gym time at my friend's apartment. This is the first time I did my Running Progression exercise homework! I was so excited and curious to how long I will last on the treadmill. At PT 2 days ago, I was only able to run 2 minutes of my walking/running intervals. So I began my warm up with a 4 minute walk at 3.0 speed. I started my running for a minute at that point and alternating walking/running every minute until I hit my 15 minute point. That's when I started to feel more tired. At that point I have done a total of 6 minutes of running and felt a quick tiny pinch on the top of my foot, oddly not the ankle bottom area where I'd expect it. From 15 minutes on, I  extended my walking to 2 minutes in between my 1 minute jogs at 4.2 speed. I started to feel heavy and the top and inside foot ankle area started to feel pressure and some snapping/crunching type feeling. I was not in pain! No painful pinch or discomfort. I just felt heavy and small bits of pressure build up in my runs. I finally stopped running at 27 minutes. That's a total of 10 minutes of running! I was afraid to do more because I really did start to feel tired and noticed a bit of limping in my strides. I notice my duck waddling pace too as I progressed in my running. It took me by surprise that I was able to do more then the 2 minutes. I guess it's because I ended my PT session with the run after about 30 minutes of other exercises prior. I was so happy to have made it that far!

After that last round of running I continued to walk at 3.0 speed for another 13 minutes. At this point I was getting really tired and ended at 42 minutes. I was so amazed to see I was able to walk in a fast pace for that long. I'm just so happy and excited to be able to get back into running finally!

For the next hour, I spent my time working out on other machines and the seated stationary bicycle. It was a very good workout day. Surprisingly my ankle felt fine! Just tired but not achy at all. I'll see how I feel tomorrow!

Day 155 - I had a horrible dream I re-broke my ankle...

Wednesday, April 24, 2013 - Week 30

I had a horrible dream last night. I dreamed I re-broke my ankle... I don't know how I broke. All I remember from the dream is that I went into my surgeons office for an xray, and he confirmed it was broken. Said it appeared to be just a hairline fracture. Then gave me a walking boot. I was at least happy I didn't need any crutches! I woke up so sad... It's cold out today too, so I can feel a little ache in the ankle metal area. Maybe it's just that.

Today will be my first day on my own to do running progression exercises! 1 minute walking, 1 minute running and alternating. If I get tired then I'll add more minutes to walking vs running. I'll find out how I do tonight. I also planned to go in to the PT gym to do some prancing on the leg lift machine. That was also one of my homework to do's but haven't had a chance to go because they close too early and I don't get out of work in time. I'll get off a bit early today just to do it. Hope I don't feel too sore tomorrow!

I think maybe the dream happened because I am going to Vegas this weekend for my good friend's bachelorette and nervous about being on my feet for a long period of time, and also afraid people will bump into my ankle. I'm so excited to go since it will be my first real mini weekend vacation since my injury happened 7 months ago! I will definitely update how I feel after I get back. Off to Vegas!
